Today as I write this, I am graced and blessed that I am able to live and lead a balanced life where I can do what I love, have the means of a secondary income through it and be able to share the love through other paths that are offered to me in life. One of the most inspiring people who have demonstrated this to me was my Sifu. Sifu was never one to be quick to talk about money and accepted me as a student gracefully, for it was through my involvement with my Sifu that Wing Chun was taught in a humble, authentic way that ensured the best of environments for teaching and learning. Reflecting on the example set by Sifu, the energy and the passion was focused in the Heart Chakra. As Sifu maintained a primary source of income through a different job, teaching Wing Chun was for the pure love of it and not for means of survial. This kept it free of desperation, competition and over-commercialism, which quite commonly comes when passion is turned into a business and things become emphasised on making money.
When survival is an emphasis, things can shift from their original perception of authenticity. Is it a race to churn out as many students as possible or as many certificates as possible in order to make a buck? Is it a race to teach what one knows for a cheaper amount to get as many students as possible? Is it right to teach techinques without principles in the shortest amount of time? Bigger business does not always mean better business does it? Hmmmmmmm let's see here.
Where do you think the integrity goes? By all means well, there could have been better things to focus attention on to preserve the best intentions for the person, the clients and everything surrounding the situation. I really do respect people who are able to make a living of what they love. Having said that, it comes back to the principle of loving what you do to be able to do what you love.
To be passionate about only one thing and make a living out of it can be challenging and a bumpy road to follow, however, it can be done to a degree that one maintains their utmost integrity and they can remember what got them on the path in the first place. Many people in my life inspire me about this, and they show such dedication and such love in all that they do. The attention has shifted from the money side of things, which understandably is important for exchange, and the universe rewards those who see life with abundance. Abundance referring to everything being supplied in perfect amount, with enough to go around for everybody. There is not a need to compete, to engage in cutthroat business practices or to put others down. There's plenty to share!
